McAllen ZIP Coverage and Areas
Official sources identify five standard ZIP codes that use the McAllen city name: 78501, 78502, 78503, 78504, and 78505. They are postal delivery labels, not neighborhood maps or city-limit lines. The local postal list keeps the confirmed postal character separate from details the inspected sources did not establish. For an individual address, use USPS first and then compare the address with the City’s corporate-limits map.
| ZIP | Confirmed local postal character | Post-office detail | Research note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 78501 | Central and downtown McAllen standard delivery area | Downtown McAllen Post Office, 406 S. 12th St. | Alternate listed station is at 620 E. Pecan Blvd.; verify the exact address |
| 78502 | McAllen postal city in official regional tables | Named station not rendered in the inspected USPS text capture | Use city/state or address lookup, not an assumed neighborhood boundary |
| 78503 | McAllen postal city; USPS labeling material pairs it with 78504 | Station and PO-box split not located in inspected source | Do not assign a neighborhood without address-level verification |
| 78504 | McAllen postal city with north/east growth and HOA-search context | No precise postal boundary found in city source | A 78504 association result is not a membership or address list |
| 78505 | McAllen postal city with possible PO-box or unique delivery segments | Exact station and PO-box-only scope were not exposed | USPS remains the authority for an individual address |
The wider McAllen-Edinburg-Mission region has other ZIPs in federal regional tables, but they should not be added to a McAllen city list merely because they serve the metro area. A postal city label can reach outside municipal limits, and an address inside McAllen can use a neighboring postal city name.
USPS Checks for McAllen ZIPs
USPS postal lookup is the address-level verifier. It offers address, city/state, and cities-by-ZIP modes. The address mode marks street address as required and uses city and state or an existing ZIP to finish the search. Company and unit fields are optional, but unit detail can settle a match when more than one standardized address appears.
| USPS field | How the control is used |
|---|---|
| Street Address | Required in address mode, with city/state or a ZIP |
| Apt/Suite/Other | Optional detail that can narrow a result |
| City and State | Required in city/state mode; use McAllen and Texas |
| ZIP Code | Five digits; required for the cities-by-ZIP mode |
| Find | Runs the selected postal lookup |
USPS warns that a result standardizes a delivery address and does not confirm that a person or organization is at it. That is an important local limit, not a flaw in the tool. Postal updates can take 30 to 60 days to reach the lookup database, so a recently changed address may need a follow-up with the applicable custodian.
Note: A standardized McAllen postal result establishes a mailing format, not city jurisdiction, property ownership, or a current occupant.
McAllen Property Records by ZIP
Neither the HCAD nor Hidalgo Tax Office controls inspected for this project displayed a direct ZIP search field. The Hidalgo County Tax Office search instead works from owner name, property address, account number, CAD reference number, or fiduciary number. Its address mode begins with the address text, so a confirmed ZIP is a way to narrow the geography before choosing a street, not a filter that returns every property in that postal area.
| Tax-search control | Available options |
|---|---|
| Step 1 search value | Account, owner name, property address, CAD reference, or fiduciary number |
| Step 1 search by | Owner Name, Property Address Starts With, Account No., CAD Reference No., or Fiduciary No. |
| Step 2 value | Optional second criterion |
| Step 2 search by | Owner Name, Property Address, Account No., or CAD Reference No. |
The Hidalgo Tax Office search screen shows the two-step property-account method.
A street fragment plus an owner surname can narrow a search when the street is known. A result remains an account and ownership record, not a complete list of people in a postal area. Certified statements are available by email after the account is located.
Note: The inspected Tax Office controls did not offer a direct ZIP filter, so a verified street remains the practical local starting point.
McAllen Parcel Records by ZIP
The Hidalgo County Appraisal District also has no inspected public ZIP filter. Its owner, address, and account searches make it useful after USPS confirms an address and the tax search or map identifies a street. HCAD advises simplifying an address to the street number and street name, leaving off prefixes and suffixes such as NE or Ave. That practical step can recover a result missed by a fully formatted address.
The HCAD property-search landing page is the official entrance for owner, address, and account research.
A parcel card can show owner name, situs and mailing addresses, legal description, account or geo identifier, value, exemptions, neighborhood, and jurisdiction codes. Keep owner mailing and property situs fields separate. A mailing address may be a representative or tax-service address, while the situs is the taxable parcel’s location.
McAllen Voter ZIP Fields
Texas voter-data layouts include permanent ZIP and mailing ZIP alongside house number, street components, precinct, VUID, status, and registration-effective date. That does not mean the individual voter-status tool offers a ZIP-wide roll. A complete ZIP slice requires the SOS or Hidalgo Elections records-request route and compliance with the applicable restrictions. Protected addresses and confidential identifiers remain withheld.
Hidalgo’s public-information form lets a requester describe the records sought and select local district or precinct context. It says requests may take up to ten business days and may involve hourly charges. The office moved to 2015 W. Jackson Creek Avenue in Edinburg in January 2025. A “Suspense” voter status means the registrar is uncertain about the recorded residential address; it is not proof that the person has left McAllen.
State Form 24-1 is the voter-registration-data public-information request and affidavit, while Form 24-2 is the statewide registered-voter search request. Older state form material describes filters for mailing address, effective-date range, status, age range, Hispanic surnames, voting elections, counties, and statewide scope, but current forms and fees should be confirmed before ordering. Ask for an existing data layout and a quote rather than expecting the individual status tool to supply a bulk geographic search.
Find Residents Within One McAllen ZIP
A postal ZIP search can narrow a search, but it cannot turn delivery data into a household roster. Work from a verified address and use one record type at a time. The City of McAllen GIS hub is useful for checking parcel context and corporate limits, while a record custodian supplies the underlying property, court, election, or permit record.
- Use USPS to standardize the full address and confirm its five-digit ZIP.
- Open McAllen GIS and check the Tax Parcel Viewer and Corporate Limits layers for the address context.
- Search HCAD or the Tax Office by the confirmed street and account details, then record the situs, legal description, and owner of record separately.
- Use the appropriate election request or another custodian only when its record type answers the remaining question.
Once the postal area is narrowed to a particular street, the McAllen street directory has the address-by-address workflow. The ZIP route should stop at the street boundary rather than rebuilding a full street search.
McAllen HOA ZIP Records
ZIP can also be a geographic clue in the Texas HOA management-certificate search. The state search accepts association name, county, city, ZIP, and association type. An inspected result included The Hills At Sharyland Four-Plex Association in Hidalgo County, McAllen, ZIP 78504, identified as a property owners’ association. That is useful for locating an association-management record tied to a place.
It is not a member roster. McAllen GIS also provides an HOA layer, but an overlay does not establish that every parcel belongs to an association. Confirm recorded covenants, plats, and association boundaries before treating a ZIP or map label as a match. The official sources did not identify a complete public directory of McAllen neighborhood-association members.
McAllen ZIPs and City Limits
Postal geography and municipal geography solve different problems. A McAllen ZIP may include delivery territory outside the city, and an address physically inside McAllen may use another postal city name. Hidalgo County precincts can also overlap the city in ways that do not match either map. For city jurisdiction, use the McAllen Corporate Limits layer and compare HCAD jurisdiction codes. For a delivery label, return to USPS.
- ZIP and ZIP+4
- The five-digit ZIP identifies a postal area; ZIP+4 adds a more precise delivery segment.
- PO-box ZIP
- A ZIP used for post-office boxes, which may not describe every street-delivery address nearby.
- Unique ZIP
- A ZIP assigned to a single institution or high-volume recipient rather than a broad delivery area.
- Carrier route
- A postal delivery sequence used for mail handling, not a city boundary or resident list.
The inspected official sources did not identify a citywide McAllen renumbering year or a named annexation readdressing project. When an older address disappears, compare street-name variants, subdivision and lot/block language, deeds, historic directories, Sanborn maps, and Planning or GIS assistance rather than inventing a new ZIP boundary.
The GIS hub also separates Tax Parcel Viewer, development and zoning, flood zones, schools, HOA’s, census, transportation, drainage, and city-growth layers. Those layers explain why an address may carry several geographic labels at once. They provide map context, not title certification or a list of people. When a result matters, preserve the parcel or account identifier and confirm it with the office that owns the record.
Note: Use corporate limits for city jurisdiction and USPS for delivery geography, because a shared postal name does not settle either question.
